Historic District/Conservation District

What is a historic district?                                                                                                        It is typically a defined area or neighborhood with a common theme based on architecture, historical development patterns, or social and economic historical patterns

What is a conservation district?  It is typically defined as an area or neighborhood with a common pattern of spacing, a common developmental pattern, an area of significant natural vegitation or visual appearance, or an area that could potentially be a historic disrict, but does not have the age or integrity to be designated as such.

Is Oakhurst a designated historic district or a conservation district?  No, but the community is discussing the possibility of applying for an historic overlay or for conservation district designation.  Oakhurst is currently undecided as to whether an historic overlay or a conservation district designation is an option the community would like to pursue.

Where do I learn more about historic reservation and planning?  See our Resources page under Fort Worth for the historic preservation officer's email contact.
